Clarification on Recent News Reports Regarding ZDATA Technologies Co.’s Data Centre in Johor

We refer to recent news articles highlighting concerns from residents regarding the construction of a hyperscale data centre in Gelang Patah, Johor.

We regret that these reports have inaccurately identified ZDATA Technologies Co.’s facility as the source of dust pollution and potential potable water shortages.

It is important to clarify that there are currently minimal construction activities contributing to dust pollution taking place at ZDATA’s site. To date, ZDATA has developed 18 acres while awaiting handover of the remaining 20 acres from the master developer, Tropicana Firstwide Sdn Bhd.

  • lThe first 18 acres are divided into Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 was completedon February 4th, 2026.
  • lUnder Phase 2, the main building and infrastructure have already been The remaining works — laying and compaction of the premix layer and internal fit-out — are minor in nature and contribute negligible dust pollution to the environment.

In short, it is highly unlikely that dust pollution originated from our development. It must also be noted that there are adjacent developments ongoing at neighbouring plots of land, which are unrelated to ZDATA.

Environmental Safeguards

Phase 3 and Phase 4 of our project will commence upon handover of the land from Tropicana Firstwide. We have taken, and will continue to take, comprehensive measures to minimise environmental impact during construction. This includes deploying two water bowsers that spray water on an hourly basis across the entire construction footprint, internal access and haul roads, and vehicle movement routes to suppress dust effectively.

Water Assurances

On the matter of domestic water supply, we wish to reassure the public that the data centre is designed utilise alternative water sources, and built by using 100% reclaimed water, supported by a purpose-built treatment plant. Accordingly, the data centre’s operations will have no impact on the state’s domestic water supply.

This innovative application of reclaimed water technology in hyperscale data centres was formally recognised in August last year, when Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof presented ZDATA with the Malaysia Green Data Center Recycled Water Certification.

Commitment to Compliance and Sustainability

We also wish to emphasise that our project has received all necessary approvals from the relevant authorities. As a leading provider of cloud-network convergence and digitised IT infrastructure services, ZDATA upholds the highest standards of corporate governance and strictly adheres to all regulatory guidelines and directives in the development and operation of our data centre.

Against the backdrop of global digital transformation, ZDATA is committed to forging a resilient and inclusive digital future by integrating environmental sustainability, technological advancement, and talent development. Our goal is to contribute to the construction of a low-carbon economy and a future-ready workforce, setting an exemplary model for the industry.

ZDATA is further committed to long-term ecosystem development, guided by three strategic pillars: industrial ecosystem building, green and low-carbon growth, and the deep integration of education and industry. These pillars will drive the prosperous development of the regional data centre ecosystem and reinforce Malaysia’s position as a hub for sustainable digital infrastructure.
